WRECK OF THE DAY!
It was around 5:30 a.m. that I awoke today. So, I have no idea when I heard the short blurb by Anna Nalick. Her pop song begins 2 AM (Breathe 2 AM). Her album title: Wreck of the Day is what intrigues me. I’ve heard her sing her really neat song numerous times but it is the title of the album title that really makes me take notice. I will write about both, though.
Have you had yours today? What? Your wreck! It happens to me everyday and I don’t even have to know the meaning of this little song. In fact, I have read the lyrics over and over and I have some ideas but, who knows another’s mind. I don’t know yours; you don’t know mine. We’re stuck, aren’t we? We may really be like cars on a cable, and life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table.
I did feel better after reading a few brief reviews. One saw her singing about an alcoholic; another about her personal problems; and, still another she is singing about the general problems everyone has in life every single day. That’s enough for me to work with; how about you? The latter is really meaningful because if you don’t have general problems in your life everyday you ain’t quite human.
If we could only see this: we are plagued with our own personal humanity. But, that fact doesn’t mean we can’t be better, or we can’t change, or we can’t get help if we need it. We can do all those things. There are really no excuses.
It’s when life gets overwhelming; that’s the problem. One of the most susceptible groups to suicide is alcoholics. Some addicts and alcoholics see no hope because they have been stuck so long or they view themselves as stuck right now. Illogical thinking on their part causes them to do all sorts of things that are not in their own personal best interest or the interest of their friends and family. During the last 12 years I have met 100’s and 100’s who approached life just that way. Hopelessness is a tough way to live.
You don’t have to live that way. Close your eyes. Right now! Keep them closed. Don’t peep; nothing is going to happen. I just want you to view the darkness behind those closed peepers. Now open them. Did you see anything besides darkness?
Now, that was a rather worthless little exercise, unless. . . Yes, unless you thought about reopening your eyes and seeing this screen once again. What do you see? Words on a page? Light? I see all that and a bunch more things I don’t understand because I am Technology Challenged.
Hope is to come out of the tunnel of darkness into the light. That’s what that little exercise was all about. Realize everyone has these daily wrecks. I don’t care how many there are or if you just think your life is one big wreck. Nothing is worth killing yourself over. No wreck is so big, no hopelessness is so hopeless, nothing in all the world is that serious—just take a big deep breath and just breathe. Great song! Awesome thought!
